As last year's October Windows 11 update begins to bear fruit, Microsoft hasn't wanted to abandon its native tools and has opted to give them a facelift, taking advantage of everything they can do. Paint, for example, has already undergone some changes that made it one of the essential image editing apps. Now, the company wants to do the same with Photos and leverage its AI.
Windows 11 users have been waiting for Microsoft to offer more features and apply them to several of its programs that were becoming obsolete. Little by little, it's collecting community reports to satisfy their requests and begin implementing all the pending work, while on the horizon it continues to find ways for all its customers to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
And despite the fact that Windows 11 24H2 is causing some performance issues when navigating the operating system's menus, the truth is that those in Redmond are getting their act together again to speed up the process of changing their applications and begin modernizing them with the arrival of Artificial Intelligence. One of those that will benefit in this regard is the Photos application.
New features in Microsoft Photos
All those who are part of the Windows Insider channel on Windows 11 and Windows 10 will be able to participate in all the improvements implemented in the Microsoft Photos app. Therefore, as we receive positive feedback from members of the testing program, the multinational will officially approve its additions for the rest of the users.
First, an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature has been implemented , supporting more than 160 languages. This means that converting images into digital text will open up a whole new range of possibilities for performing all kinds of tasks from the Photos app, just as it has been seen in other programs, such as Adobe PDF or Word. To use OCR, simply click the Scan Text button at the bottom. This will highlight the text in the image and copy it to the clipboard.
A shortcut from File Explorer is also planned to directly access AI editing and visual search without having to do so in the app itself. Simply right-click on the photo in question and choose Create with Microsoft Designer to access a panel full of tools, including the ability to remove unwanted objects.
But one of the most exciting surprises is the inclusion of Copilot. As recently happened in Paint, the new Copilot icon offers useful information for editing photos. Within the Photos menu, it appears at the top of the screen, and if you select it, you'll receive information on how to improve your shots, framing suggestions, or discover interesting details. This way, you'll have multiple smart options at your fingertips to create great results.
